It is a Coir Defibering Plant situated in the village Kundaim of Ponda Taluka. It was established after the liberation of the state under the Department of Industries & Mines and presently it is a part of Department of Handicrafts, Textile & Coir.

The machine seen in the picture is Coir Defibering Machine used to extract coir from coconut husk. This coir is having good demand in the local market from manufacturing coir ropes, yarns and Mats. Coir mats such as door mats and floor mats are produced here. These have good demand in the local markets.

This a picture from Coir Defibering Plant where women’s are working on a device called “Ratt” over which Coir yarn is spun. At a time, around 8 to 10 mtrs.of yarn is spun.
In this trade training has pertained to the interested candidates and a stipend of Rs. 1,000/- per month to general & OBC and Rs. 1,500/- per month to SC/ST candidates is paid. The training period duration of 6 months for a full working day after completion of the course the Trade Excellency Certificate is issued by the Department. |
